What will I learn in this course?

You will learn to assess medical emergencies and perform essential life-saving techniques, including:

  • Administering CPR

  • Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Relieving choking

  • Recognizing and responding to strokes and heart attacks

  • Managing bleeding, broken bones, and other injuries

Are CPR and First Aid the same?

While both are critical components of emergency care, CPR focuses specifically on cardiac arrest situations, whereas First Aid encompasses a broader range of medical emergencies.

Can I obtain First Aid certification only?

Yes, First Aid classes can be taken separately

Is online-only CPR and First Aid training acceptable?

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive an eCard via email. While instructors have up to 20 days to issue the certification, CPR NY guarantees delivery within one business day.

How will I receive my certification?

Fully online courses are generally not accepted for OSHA and state compliance, as they lack the required hands-on training. However, blended-learning classes, which combine online modules with in-person skills practice, are accepted.

Do hospitals or fire departments offer free CPR training?

Some institutions may offer free classes, but there is often a fee for certification cards ($20–$40). Additionally, availability may be limited due to budget constraints or low demand.

Do you offer renewal CPR classes?

Yes, CPR NY offers CPR classes for all skill levels. Courses are tailored appropriately, whether it's your first time or a renewal.

How can I replace a lost CPR or First Aid card?

If you received an eCard via email, you can log into your AHA portal to retrieve it. For assistance with lost certification cards, refer to this article on what to do if you lost your CPR certification card.

How long is my CPR certification valid?

CPR certifications are valid for two years from the date of issue.

How often should I renew my CPR and/or First Aid certification?

It's recommended to renew your certification every two years. However, some employers may require more frequent updates, so it's advisable to check with your employer for specific requirements.
