BLS Certification FAQs 

What is this BLS / CPR for Healthcare Providers course?

This course teaches Basic Life Support (BLS) skills at a professional/clinical level—intended for healthcare providers. You’ll learn how to perform CPR for adults, children, and infants, apply choking relief, and use an AED safely and effectively.

Who should enroll in this class?

This class is ideal for those working in or studying for roles in healthcare, such as:

  • Physicians, nurses, medical assistants

  • Therapist and support staff

  • Students in healthcare programs

  • Other licensed healthcare professionals or those planning to enter clinical settings

How long does the BLS / CPR class last?

Typical class duration is 2 to 4 hours (excluding breaks).
Note: The time may vary depending on class size or for on-site or group sessions.

Is this class different if it’s a renewal vs first time?

No — CPRNY uses the same format for first-time and renewal classes. The instructor adapts content to meet the experience level of participants

Is there a practice test for the BLS course?
  • The American Heart Association (AHA) does not provide an official BLS practice test. 

  • The class includes a written exam of 25 questions, and a passing score of 84% or higher is required.

  • You can also find third-party BLS practice quizzes online to help you prepare

Do you ever offer free BLS certification?

Not generally. However, CPRNY may hold free community CPR/First Aid training events occasionally (not intended for professional credentialing).

Does the BLS class include First Aid training?

No — the BLS course focuses specifically on CPR, AED usage, airway management, and choking relief. First Aid (wound care, bleeding control, etc.) is taught in a separate class

If I already have ACLS, do I still need BLS?

Yes. ACLS is an advanced certification and does not replace BLS. You still need a valid BLS certification even if you hold ACLS.

How do I replace a lost BLS certification card?

If you initially received an eCard, you can log in to the AHA eCard portal to retrieve or reprint your certification.

How long is a BLS / CPR certification valid?

Upon successful completion, you receive a certification valid for two years. 

How much does the BLS / CPR course cost?

Pricing varies by training center. For specific cost details, check CPRNY’s course registration page.
