First Aid Certification FAQs

What is First Aid training?

First Aid is the immediate care provided to someone who becomes ill or injured. The goal is to stabilize the person and improve outcomes before professional medical help arrives. CPRNY’s First Aid certification trains participants to handle emergencies such as bleeding, choking, broken bones, allergic reactions, and more.

Is this First Aid class right for me?

Yes — this course is ideal for anyone required by OSHA, state regulations, or employers to obtain First Aid certification, as well as individuals who want to improve workplace safety.

Are CPR and First Aid the same?

Not exactly. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is one component of First Aid but focuses solely on cardiac arrest emergencies. First Aid covers a broader range of situations, including injuries, illnesses, and environmental emergencies.

Can I get a First Aid certification only?

Yes, you can take First Aid separately, but CPRNY typically offers combined CPR + First Aid courses to provide complete emergency care training in one convenient session.

Can I complete First Aid certification online?

Fully online First Aid courses are usually not accepted by employers or OSHA. However, CPRNY offers blended-learning options — part online, part in-person — where you complete the lecture portion online and demonstrate skills hands-on with an instructor.

How do I receive my First Aid certification card?

Upon successful completion, you’ll receive an American Heart Association (AHA) eCard via email, typically within one business day. You can save or print your card for your records.

How do I replace a lost card?

You can retrieve or reprint your certification anytime by logging into the AHA eCard portal (ecards.heart.org). If you need assistance, CPRNY can help you recover your record.

How long is my First Aid certification valid?

Your certification is valid for two years from the issue date. Some employers may require earlier renewal depending on workplace policies.

Is there a test for First Aid certification?

No — students are not required to take a written test. Certification is based on successful completion of class participation and hands-on skills.
